Back-to-school shopping showdown: Amazon vs. Walmart

Monday, August 21, 2017

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- If you want to grab all of the items on your kids' back to school lists online, which is the best site to shop?

Is Amazon always the best deal, or is it Walmart?

Prices on both sites are very competitive.

An Avery one-inch notebook is selling for $1.86 at Amazon and Walmart.

A 50-count box of Crayola colored pencils is $6.97 at both retailers.

But you can also find some big differences in some items.

A 10-pack of Crayola markers costs $4.71 on Amazon. That same pack is just $.97 on Walmart.

Online, Amazon's price on a pack of glue sticks cost $1.99, but at Walmart the price jumps to $7.87.

In the end, with all the items compared and added to the carts, Walmart won with a total of $35.62, compared to $46.59 at Amazon.

There are deals available on Amazon when you buy in bulk.

Walmart ships orders of $35 and up for free. Amazon Prime members get all Prime items shipped for free. Also, orders of $25 and up ship for free from Amazon.
