Shooting in Friendswood leaves community shaken
According to the FBI, there were 10 aggravated assaults in Friendswood in the last year.

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas (KTRK) -- The players of a pickup basketball game in Friendswood say they feared they'd never make it home again from the game.

They say one of the guys playing called out two men who were smoking cigarettes near the game. Those men left and came back about 30 minutes later with a group of up to six others. They say four of them were wearing bandanas over their faces.

According to investigators, one of the guys who had been smoking earlier threw a cigarette at one of the guys playing basketball, then attacked him. Others from the basketball court tried to break up the fight and that's apparently when two men from the aggressor's side pulled out guns and fired shots in the air.

Police say one of the shooters put a gun up to the head of one of the basketball players and threatened to kill him.

"Friendswood would be the last place I would think that would ever happen. It's just crazy. That's never happened there before. Nothing like that," said eyewitness Kevin Dapper.

The men ran to cars waiting in the nearby city hall parking lot. One apparently shot at the ground as they fled and that bullet grazed the leg of one of the guys who was out here playing basketball. He's expected to be OK.
