AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Scientists in New Zealand are now examining the remains of a colossal squid. It was captured in Antarctica in December and kept frozen until now.

The colossal squid is the heaviest squid species on the planet -- this one weighs 770 pounds.

Its eight arms are each more than 3 feet long and the two tentacles are believed to have been at least 6 feet each.

The colossal squid is very elusive and lives at extreme depths in the ocean, so it's incredibly rare to see a specimen as intact as this one.
