Special prosecutors appointed in AG Ken Paxton investigation

Houston attorneys Kent Schaffer and Brian Wice are set to be appointed special prosecutors in the ongoing investigation involving Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The appointment was made today by Collin County Judge Scott Becker. Schaffer says he expects to be sworn in by this afternoon via Skype.

Schaffer is a well known Houston criminal defense attorney. Wice specializes in appellate cases. Notably, Wice was on the team for former Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Attorney General Paxton last year allegedly admitted soliciting investment clients without registering with the state. He was fined by the state securities board.

The special prosecutors were appointed because the Collins County District Attorney has recused himself.
