A view of the border through the eyes of an agent
Ted Oberg goes behind the scenes and walks the Rio Grande with Border Patrol Agent Berin Salas

LAREDO, TX (KTRK) -- The olive uniforms of Border Patrol agents are a common sight in Laredo and other border communities on the boundary of Mexico. ABC-13 investigative reporter Ted Oberg recently spent some time with Border Patrol Agent Berin Salas, one of the nation's 21,000 Border Patrol agents.

Debate over border security has intensified with Texas GOP members voting last week with to tighten border controls and with the Tea Party win in Virginia of Dave Brat, upsetting House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Some point to Brat's tougher stance on immigration as one reason for his victory.

Oberg and Salas talked about the Patrol's role in the community, shared tactics used to protect the border and discussed the difficulties faced by Border Patrol agents.
