Touching tribute to K-9 officer
Border protection officers and Maine state police lined the walkway and saluted as Dennis Kovach walked his canine partner to a veterinarian's office to be euthanized

CARIBOU, ME -- A sick K-9 in Maine received a touching tribute in his final moments.

US Customs and Border Protection Officer Dennis Kovach put down his four-legged partner "Mike" days before Thanksgiving after the dog became too sick to continue.

Fellow border protection officers and Maine state police surprised Kovach by lining the walkway and saluting as he walked his canine partner to a veterinarian's office to be euthanized.

"Mike" was on the verge of retirement when he became ill. One of his biggest busts involved the seizure of more than 1,300 pounds of marijuana.
