Hurricane season is upon us. Now is the time to make preparations, in case a storm heads our way. Those plans need to include ALL the members of your family, including your pets.

First, make sure all your pets are microchipped and wearing identification tags with your current contact information. Also double check that your pets are current on their vaccinations. It's a good idea to include a copy of those vaccination records with your other important papers. Even if you don't use a crate on a daily basis, each of your animals should have one to use if you need it in a disaster. And locate local boarding kennels and friends or family that are outside of evacuation zones that could keep your pet after a disaster.

And remember, if you need to evacuate...take your pets with you!

The Houston SPCA has a complete checklist of things you should include for your pets in your family disaster kit.
