San Leon oyster business donates $10K to Dickinson in wake of Harvey

DICKINSON, Texas (KTRK) -- The City of Dickinson received a much-needed donation in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

The small town was one of the hardest hit by the storm with residents saying it could take months and even years before things are back to normal.

It could take months or even years for some people to bounce back from the devastation.

Assistance from others has been helping many get by, and a big donation from a neighboring state and a nearby oyster business gave the people of Dickinson a big boost of hope.

ABC13 recently featured a Kemah resident known by people all over the world now as Rescue Bae. Raz Halili helped to rescue people on his family's company oyster boat during Harvey, and his selfie after helping the Coast Guard stuck in floodwaters went viral.

It's a selfie that has caught the attention of thousands online, and thanks to a woman in Port Arthur, a man who rescued people during Harvey is being known as #RescueBae.

Halili told Eyewitness News that his family's business, Prestige Oysters Inc. along with the Amite City Chamber of Commerce in Louisiana have been working to gather water, cleaning supplies and personal items for residents of Dickinson.

An 18-wheeler full of donations arrived Friday morning. In addition, Prestige Oysters Inc. gave Mayor of Dickinson Julie Masters a check for $10,000 for Harvey relief.
