Special visit for man with limited time
James Nguyen wanted to meet a member of the Houston Rockets

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- At 21, James Nguyen's life was already supposed to be over.

He was born with a syndrome similar to muscular dystrophy. His family says he was expected to live 15 years.

Instead, he flourished, attending Klein Oak High School, where the basketball coach describes James as "the man."

Twenty days ago, things changed. Both of James' lungs collapsed. He has been hospitalized for a month, and there are no more treatment options for him.

So, his family says, James has asked to go home.

That was his first request, which will be granted today. Another was that he meet a Houston Rocket.

Today, Rockets point guard Patrick Beverly and Clutch came calling, delivering an autographed basketball and distraction from the tubes and machines.

This remarkable young man has had a powerful effect on those who cross his path. Beverly posted today on his Instagram account (@patbev21): "Visited a kid today. No timetable on how many days he has on this earth. His name is James Nguyen he has changed my life forever. I am humbled to be your favorite player on the Rockets. U have changed me and my outlook on life. Thanks to you I'm a different man. #RedNation"
