HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman says she was in the shower Wednesday morning when a man broke into her southeast Houston home, beat her up and tried to rob her. When it was all over, she ran to a neighbor's for help.
It all happened at a home on Catalina near Arrowhead.
Rebecca Leal and her daughters couldn't help but pay their neighbor a visit after hearing about this morning's terrifying ordeal.
"It was a surprise because they have big old gates and I have no idea how they got in there," said Leal.
Police say it was about 8am when a man wearing a mask jumped the iron fence and stormed inside the home. Investigators searched the home just minutes after it happened.
"I'm worried about my kids because they can jump in here and hurt us, too," said Leal.
The 51-year-old homeowner had just finished exercising in her pool and was in the shower when the suspect broke in and demanded money. When she said she didn't have any, we're told the suspect began brutally beating her with his gun.
The woman then ran to her neighbor's house for help and was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
For Leal, knowing her neighbor will be OK is a relief. Knowing the suspect is still out there is not.
"I'm still nervous I'm thinking them people are still around here somewhere and I'm scared that they might come to my house," she said.
