Woman hit, killed on East Freeway in northeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman was hit and killed on the East Freeway in northeast Houston and the driver who ran her over didn't stop.

Police say the woman was a passenger in a car that broke down in the center of the freeway near Rankin road. She got out of the car and tried to walk to the shoulder. Three cars were able to dodge her, but a fourth hit her and drove off.

The accident tied up traffic in the area for hours.
