Woman enduring sweltering heat for weeks with no AC
A southeast woman talks about living with no AC in 100+ temperatures

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Extreme heat has been baking the greater Houston area for days and today was no exception. We spoke with one woman in southeast Houston who is trying to make it without air conditioning.

"It's 100 to 102 degrees outside and I'm already sweating," said Cecliy Hernandez. "It's hot, why would we want to be here?"

Hernandez says she has had a broken air conditioning at her southeast Houston apartment for close to two weeks.

"I worry about my daughter's health because, you know, she's only three. And it's so hot here for her," she said.

She spends much of her day, with her toddler, Vanessa, in this one room. You see they purchased a wall unit for it, keep the shades drawn, and hope they don't have to endure these triple digit temperatures much longer.

"She wants to be somewhere else with her grandma or her cousin's house because it's hot here, we come to the living room for 15 minutes and my daughter's already sweating," she said.

We went to the front office to see when the AC might start working properly, but it's closed on Sundays. We talked to someone at the emergency maintenance phone number, who says it is partially broken, and they're working on it. He asked us to call back during the week for more information.

For now, Cecliy says she's hoping for a break - if not in the form of an AC repair, perhaps from Mother Nature, by way of cooler temperatures.

"It's just ridiculous already," she said.
