Their car went overboard and that's when a couple of fisherman jumped to the rescue

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- A woman and infant were rescued after the vehicle they were in went into a Galveston County bayou Monday.

Around 5:30pm, authorities received a call that a car drove right into Offatts Bayou near 61st Street just west of I-45. Witnesses say a few fishermen jumped off from the pier and grabbed a 30-year-old woman from inside the car, along with a 6 to 9-month-old baby.

"If somebody is going to need help, you're going to help them. That's just common. I mean everybody is going to do that," a fishermen who witnessed the rescue told Eyewitness News. "Luckily, they were able -- what I hear -- to get both of them out. Hopefully they're both going to be all right and the young lady will get some help."

The woman and infant were rescued and taken to the hospital. They are both said to be stable. The woman has another child, who was found safe with family members.

The car, which was about 15-20 feed deep in the water, was pulled out. No one else was inside the car.

Authorities say an investigation is ongoing and charges could be filed against the woman. CPS says it has been informed and is responding to the incident.
