HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 24-hour restaurant in west Houston was the latest target of armed robbers.

It happened around midnight at the Denny's location on Wilcrest near the Katy Freeway.

Police say two men wearing masks walked into the Denny's and robbed the cash register. The robbers didn't target any customers.

Police say one customer ran after the crooks and managed to snatch the license plate off the getaway vehicle as it drove off. He told officers he threw the plate on the roof. The next thing the man says he remembers is waking up covered in blood.

It's unclear if the man fell or was attacked by the fleeing robbers. Police were unable to locate the license plate.

Later in the night, another group of robbers targeted a Denny's on Houston's south side. Police do not believe the two cases are connected.
