Towtruck driver stops smash and grab suspects
A towtruck driver followed smash and grab suspects until they became so nervous they abandoned their vehicle and stolen merchandise.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police credit a tow truck driver with following a group of smash and grab suspects, stopping them from getting away with stolen goods.

Officers say a group of three to five men wearing masks ran a stolen truck into the back of a City Gear apparel store on Telephone Road around 4 a.m. on Saturday.

The men then drove off. Immediately after, a tow truck driver followed them. The driver told 13 Eyewitness News he thinks the suspects saw him following them and got nervous and crashed the truck they were driving into a tree.

The suspects then ran off on foot, leaving the truck and the stolen loot behind.

Most, if not all, of the merchandise was recovered.

The suspects are still at large.
