Disturbing video: NYPD officer smashes alleged subway fare beater in face

NEW YORK (KTRK) -- An NYPD officer is under investigation after he sent a man accused of trying to skip a subway fare to the hospital.

Some may find the video disturbing.

In the video, the officer swings his nightstick at Donovan Lawson's legs but then hits the 20-year-old's face, giving him a huge gash.

Lawson was taken to the hospital and is now facing charges of fare beating, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing government administration.

The officer is now under investigation by the Internal Affairs Department.
