Houston firefighters get unexpected gift while responding to call

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston fire station that received Miley has tweeted out that they plan to give Miley to a pet adoption agency.

HFD Station 6 posted this Facebook message: "On behalf of station 6,a big THANK YOU to everyone!! We have been contacted by a pet adoption agency. We feel this will be the best course of action for Miley as they will be better suited at matching her up with the perfect family!"

Miley, a 4-year-old Chihuahua, was an unexpected gift the station received after responding to a patient call.

Fire Station 6 had been looking for a new home for the pup who had to unexpectedly part from her owner forever.

"It was an elderly gentleman having a problem with his pacemaker," said Sr. Cpt Raymond Flannelly.

The patient, Milton Lindsey, was driving on I-10 West when he said his pacemaker started to show problems.

Miley was sitting right next to him. Firefighters responded. Paramedics transported Lindsey to the hospital. And just before they did, Lindsey said he wanted firefighters to take his beloved dog, and find her a good home.

"I can't continue on with her," said Lindsey in a phone interview with ABC-13. "I feel terrible. It's going to be like losing a piece of me, you know. It's like my child. It's time for her to have someone healthy that can take care of her - for her life time."

So firefighters at Station 6 are now a crusade to find Miley a new home. But until then, she's melted the hearts of every single one of them. Flannelly posted for help on the stations Facebook page. He also reached out to ABC-13 for help.

"As you can tell, she's running the place," said Flannelly. "It's a lose-lose for the dog and the owner. She's not going to the pound. We made a commitment to that gentleman that's not going to happen."
