HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Officials at the University of Houston say they will lose about 3,000 parking spots through the day due to preparations for its big game against UConn this evening.

As a result, officials say students and staff should consider carpooling or taking METRORail's Purple Line to get to campus.

The sudden loss of these spots could cause some major traffic jams around the UH campus.

Here's what you need to know:

The red lots around the stadium are closed and are all tow away zones at this point, including 12-A, 12-B, 16-B, 16-E, and 15-C. Those are all tow away zones.

ERP parking should be used, according to UH officials, and you can also park in the blue lots. Those will turn into cash lots at 4pm.

The yellow lots meantime are available all day.

The game can be seen at 7pm tonight on ESPN.
