Two dead in shooting at hospital pharmacy
Police say a man fatally shot a woman in the pharmacy of a Houston hospital before turning the gun on himself

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say a man fatally shot a woman in the outpatient pharmacy of Ben Taub Hospital before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities say the shooting at 2:15pm Wednesday appears to be a murder-suicide that involved two people who worked at the pharmacy. They say surveillance video shows a male employee approach a female employee who was working at her station and then shoot her from behind. The video, taken from behind the glass counter at the back of the shop, then shows the suspect turn the gun on himself.

"We are getting some information that the male may have been trying to get into a relationship with the female in recent days," said HPD spokesperson John Cannon.

At least seven employees and more than a dozen customers were inside the pharmacy at the time.

"I heard a pow, pow, pow, pow, pow," said LaVell Byrd, a pharmacy customer.

Eyewitnesses say they ran into each other as they struggled to get away.

No other injuries were reported. Police say the shooter, a pharmacy technician, was 58 years old. A police spokesman would say only the victim was "much younger." Their names have not been released.

On Wednesday, George V. Masi, president and CEO of the Harris Health System issued the following statement:
