Though on alert, organizers say no credible threat at FOT
Law enforcement nationwide is on alert for possible terror attacks over the July 4th holiday. They want people to stay vigilant

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Law enforcement agencies will be on high alert this weekend as thousands of people gather for July 4th festivities.

There is no credible security threat to the Houston area, but police agencies will be prepared to respond quickly if something does happen this weekend.

According to organizers of Freedom Over Texas, there will be a police presence at the event Saturday.

"Of course we work hand-in-hand with not only Houston Police Department Special Operations Division, but also Homeland Security," Producer Susan Christian said. "And they look at every aspect of security and we will be prepared."

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee met with Homeland Security teams to discuss potential threats.

"This should be a celebratory time," Lee said. "There is not the imminent threat that might be perceived by some of our citizens."

Police advise families to be aware, nevertheless.

"Your information feeds our intelligence," Major Darryl Coleman said. "So what I would ask is this: If you see anything suspicious, make sure you call law enforcement so that we can have appropriate officers respond to either verify that threat or discount that possible threat."

Families are not allowed to bring guns or fireworks of their own to Freedom Over Texas. Get more details about the event.
