A teen is charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed over a prom dress

STOUGHTON, WI (KTRK) -- A Wisconsin teenager is charged with stabbing the father of his former prom date -- seven times.

The 17-year-old allegedly told police he was in a murderous rage because the girl's parents demanded the teen pay for half of their daughter's $500 prom dress.

Matthew McLimans, the 42-year-old victim, says his 15-year old daughter purchased the dress after 17-year old Tyler Bexson asked her to be his date to the McFarland High School prom, Wisconsin station WKOW reports. McLimans says before the May 2 prom, the teenage couple broke off their relationship and scrapped prom plans.

"If a boy's going to ask a girl out to the prom and not follow through, they really should have some consequences for that," McLimans told WKOW.

The teen is free on a $10,000 bail.
