FREEPORT, TX (KTRK) -- An 18-year-old Freeport girl died the morning after her homecoming dance in a truck crash, her family tells Eyewitness News.

Lessly Nataly Acuna was driving a truck with three other students from Brazosport High School inside early early Saturday morning. They were going to an IHOP in Lake Jackson after the dance. Investigators say while traveling northbound on Highway 288, Lessly took a curve too fast, causing her white Ford truck to roll over.

The impact killed Lessly. The three others in the vehicle -- two female students and one male student -- were unharmed.

Lessly's school issued a statement Sunday morning, offering sympathy to Lessly's family and friends and said counseling support for students would be provided at the school on Monday.

State troopers told Eyewitness News that Lessley and two passengers were not wearing seat belts. But family and friends insist all three passengers were wearing seat belts and that Acuna was the only one who was not.

"I guess she lost control," said Acuna's cousin Yanneliz Nava. "She grabbed the steering wheel with one hand, trying to protect one of her friends on the other side."
