HOUSTON (KTRK) -- As the suspect in a weekend slaying is getting ready to appear in court Wednesday morning on capital murder charges, we're getting to learn more about the victim from her childhood friends.

Kella Bracken had a lot of endearing nicknames, Kel-Kel was one of them.

"She made everyone feel so special," friend Elaine Focke said.

They say the 22-year-old was studying to be an English teacher.

"It was like going to your grandma's house. She wanted to make you feel so comfortable and if you looked cold she would throw you a blanket," Focke said.

What they don't know is how she ended up at a northwest side parking lot last weekend.

"It finally his us last night, it's real and something that can't go away," Focke said.

Saturday afternoon Harris County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the parking lot of Peter Piper Pizza on East Sam Houston Parkway. They found a woman dead, in the back seat of a car. A security guard says the car had been there for two days.

"If the guy would have just sat there and gotten to know her, I'm pretty sure she would have helped him, buy him a meal," Bracken's friend Cecil Mullenweg said.

Maytham Alsaedy is charged in the crime. He had only been out of prison five days for a possession of a controlled substance conviction when Bracken was discovered. He also has an aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon charge from the day before Bracken's body was found.

Friends hope for justice and remember the friend they all learned from.

"She was one who would honestly care for everyone," Mullenweg said.

Court records list the suspect as homeless but originally from Iraq. Friends are raising money for Bracken's funeral on a GoFundMe page.
