Suspect allegedly swallowed meth during high-speed chase
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- New details about an hour-long police chase were revealed in probable cause court Saturday afternoon. Mark Ryan Williams, 26, did not appear in court for medical reasons, but he is accused of driving a stolen truck for more than 80 miles from the Hardy Toll Road to the Grand Parkway while officers chased him on Friday afternoon.
The chase ended when a mother in a Cadillac with her children collided with Williams' truck at the Eastex Freeway at Aldine Mail Route. In court Saturday, documents revealed Williams was hospitalized because he allegedly admitted to swallowing meth during the chase.

A police officer responding to a suspicious event call first spotted the truck backed into a driveway on E. Sunnyside.
"[The] officer pulled up and blocked vehicle to keep it from leaving, at which point the truck backed up and pulled away from officer driving away at high rate of speed through the neighborhood," a probable cause document read.

Spike strips did not slow down the truck and the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. Even when the truck was going on only its rims, it reached speeds of 60 miles per hour. After the crash, police allegedly found crystal meth in the driver's door pocket along with a meth pipe and heroin syringe in the center console.
The responding officer also got a flat tire during the chase and caught up with Williams after the crash. He is now charged with two drug possession counts, evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. A judge set his bond at $70,000 total.
