Students injured In Peruvian bus crash return home

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It was an emotional arrival for the students whose trip to Peru didn't go as planned.

A tour bus taking them to hike among ruins ran off the road, flipped, and crashed.

"What I saw was that it was getting close to a curve and it never stopped and it just rolled," said Jorge Enriquez, who blacked out and woke up in the river. He's amazed everyone survived. "There is someone that loves us up there. Definitely God was always with us."

The group on the bus was from Stephen F. Austin University.

They were in Peru for a month studying language and culture.

The students aboard the bus couldn't believe what was happening as the bus left the road at a curve.

"It seemed so fake," said Lety Montoya. "It seems like it was almost in a movie."

Jessica Farrell blames speed for the crash. "We thought the curves were always too fast," she said. "I don't know. I felt like I was getting used to it and then all of a sudden we just started tipping over."

Jeron Humphrey shot video of the aftermath which showed the bus on a riverbank, torn apart. "I couldn't really fathom that this was happening," he explained. "I couldn't even believe it happened."

They are thankful to be home, injured but okay.

"After looking at the damage," said Lori Fryman, a graduate student at SFA, "it's a wonder all of us lived through it."
