A very identifiable mark on a stolen vehicle made it easy for police to catch two suspects.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A police chase ended in a crash on Houston's northwest side early this morning.

HPD officers told Eyewitness News the situation started with an armed robbery at an apartment complex in the 7500 block of Long Point Road around 12:30am. Investigators said a robber, armed with a pistol, stole a man's wallet and keys as he came home for the evening.

The victim called police and filed a report.

HPD said about 40 minutes later, the robber and an accomplice returned and stole the man's Ford Expedition. A giant star and the word 'Houston' in old English was written on the back window of the SUV.

Police said they easily spotted the vehicle at Hempstead and Highway 290 a little bit later. Officers chased the Expedition until the driver lost control, crossed some rail road tracks, and crashed into a sitting pickup truck at Hempstead near Bingle.

Witness Bruce Glover said he heard the moment of impact.

"I was in the office. I hear a loud bang, explosion," he said. "I came outside, heard another service guy yelling 'He's running, he's running.'"

HPD said the 2 men fled on foot before being arrested.
