A woman has died after she was stabbed, police say, by her boyfriend in northwest Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man is on the run, accused of fatally stabbing a woman in northwest Houston.

Deputies say it all happened before 1:30am at the Prestonwood Apartments near Highway 249 at Prestonwood Forest Drive.

A 19-year-old woman was attacked in the parking lot of the apartment complex, stabbed several times by her boyfriend. The woman managed to cross the street to a hotel, but collapsed.

A relative of that boyfriend ran into the hotel lobby, begging for help.

The night auditor ran out and tried to help the woman as best he could.

"She just was, looked like she was gasping for air, but it looked like she was still breathing," says hotel employee Henry Hemmer. "I could not see wounds or anything until she rolled over, and there was blood on her back, right hand side."

He added, "Whatever the dispute was, he ended up stabbing her in the stomach and then slashing her around the throat and the neck area. Either way, there was bleeding on the back and she was still responsive but growing paler."

The victim was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. She died at the hospital.

Investigators say the woman's attacker is at large after driving off from the scene in a blue Nissan Maxima.

Officers are at the scene interviewing witnesses.
