Sketch of suspect in machete attack that happened earlier this month released
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are investigating after a man says he was attacked by someone with a machete after leaving his girlfriend's house.
It all happened on the 9000 block of Jaywood near West Gulf Bank in northwest Houston on July 6.
Houston police say the victim was leaving for work and turned onto Gulf Bank when his vehicle was struck by the suspect's vehicle on the left rear side bumper. The suspect continued driving after striking the victim's truck and the victim attempted to follow in order to get the license plate and take a photo of the truck.
The suspect then drove to the next block and stopped and got out his truck. The victim also exited his vehicle. As the victim attempted to exchange information with the suspect, the suspect pulled a machete out of the truck and chased him on foot. As the victim attempted to flee on foot, he fell and the suspect struck him several times in the back with the machete, causing major injuries. The victim attempted to get up and run to his residence on Jaywood, but fell again and was struck by the suspect several more times in the arms and hands.
The suspect then returned to his vehicle and fled.
The victim, 25, was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition. Investigators say they expect the man to survive his injuries, but he was badly wounded in the attack.
Officers describe the suspect only as a Hispanic male with a medium build, a partial mustache and three-day beard. He was driving a 1997 to 2000 white Ford pickup truck with a missing driver's side mirror.
