A shelter in place order has been lifted after a gas leak

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An order telling dozens of residents in east Harris County to shelter in place has been lifted after a work crew hit a gas line, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Crews worked overnight to contain the leak after a natural gas line ruptured outside St. Dominic Catholic Church at 8215 Reservoir Avenue. As of 5:00am, workers were still on scene filling in the dirt after they fixed the broken line.

According to the Sheldon Fire Department, members of the church hit the line while trying to install crosses outside in advance of Easter. Firefighters told Eyewitness News the church did not call before digging into the ground.

The fire department ordered the shelter in place just after 8:00pm lsat night and told everyone near and around Highway 90 and the Beltway 8 to stay in place.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to report.
