HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A registered sex offender was allegedly caught by his roommate with child pornography, court documents show.

Scott Michael Festner, 41, is charged with five counts of possession of child pornography after his roommate allegedly found images and video on shared television and computer equipment in the common areas of their home.

Authorities say the roommate alerted law enforcement who then searched the home and found 1,096 files on Festner's devices showing child sexual assault. Harris County law enforcement say Festner admitted to investigators that he searched for and collected child pornography. Investigators say several of the images they recovered from his computers showed children as young as 6 years old engaged in sexual acts.

Festner is currently a lifetime registered sex offender as a result of a previous conviction of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

His bond is set at $250,000.
