Search underway for armed suspects
Deputies and dogs are hunting for suspects following a home invasion in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Deputies and dogs are hunting for at least one suspect following a frightening home invasion in northwest Harris County.

The attack happened at about 1:30pm at a home in the 6300 block of Chippewa. Two armed men kicked the front door open and stormed the house. Inside was a mother and her seven children.

The men, according to detectives, were looking for something but officials would not give us specifics as to what that is. When all of this was happening, a neighbor heard the family scream. She ran over, saw that something was wrong and went to call for help. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not there were any shots fired. No one was injured.

"Some people are saying there was a shot fired. Some people are saying one of the suspects fired at the homeowners; other people are saying the shot came from some place else," said Capt. Jay Coon with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "It's still an active scene and what I'd hate to do is you give you something as fact and turns out it isn't."

What we do know is the suspects left on foot. One of them was caught not far away. Deputies tell us he has a bullet wound to the head from an unknown incident from last week. The other suspect is still on the run.

We're told the family is unharmed but very shaken up over what has happened. Deputies say there is a possible third suspect who may have been in a getaway car but they haven't been able to confirm that.
