A METRO spokesman says a woman is fighting for her life after she was struck by a light rail train in Midtown

HOUSTON -- Officials say a 23-year-old woman who was struck Monday evening by a METRO light rail train in Midtown has died.

The accident happened around 7:15pm as the woman was crossing the platform on Main Street just before McGowen. Police say she was thrown off the tracks and into the bushes.

Authorities said paramedics tried CPR on scene, but when they rushed her to Ben Taub General Hospital she had no pulse and was declared dead there.

Authorities say a backpack was found at the scene, which is near a Houston Community College campus, but we don't know if the victim was a there.
