Police: Woman stabbed with butcher knife in shower

TAYLORSVILLE, NC -- A North Carolina woman is recovering after she was nearly stabbed to death, and her husband is now in jail charged with attempted murder.

Authorities in Alexander County say Timothy Karis stabbed his wife with a butcher knife while she was taking a shower.

Stefanie Karis showed her injuries to WSOC-TV. She has several stab wounds to her neck and says she can no longer feel her fingers.

"He started stabbing me and cussing me and told me I wasn't going to get out of this alive, said Karis.

Karis said if her 13-year-old son didn't step in to help her, she probably would be dead.

She had taken out multiple domestic violence orders against her husband. The most recent expired three weeks ago.

It is a decision she now regrets and hopes her story will help other women in violent relationships to leave before it's too late.
