Police: Man surrenders after being given a turkey sandwich and cigarettes
FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- A man surrendered to authorities after barricading himself in a home for hours Sunday morning.
He asked for a pack of cigarettes and a turkey sandwich and came out after the police chief brought it to him.
Fayetteville police responded to a a report of a burglary around 1:20 a.m. in the 2800 block of Maffitt Court. Police said Darryl Reed Hester Jr. broke into a residence and was confronted by the people inside.
As he left, he fired a round from a pistol into the ground. He then went into a house in the 2800 block of Morganton Road. Police were called and officers surrounded the house and tried to make contact with Hester.
At around 2:30 p.m. Hester surrendered to authorities without further incident. He was charged with first degree burglary, breaking and entering a residence, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He is from Bladen County and police said this is the fourth time he has been involved in a situation like this.
Hester was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond.
