Police: Man guzzles stolen wine in grocery store bathroom, steals sushi in pants

FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- A Friendswood man is facing a felony charge, accused in a bizarre crime inside a grocery store.

Nathan Andrew Phifer, 28, is charged with theft. According to Friendswood police, Phifer was spotted in the wine display area at the HEB grocery store in the 700 block of W. Parkwood. They say he selected three bottles of wine, put them in his pockets and entered the restroom, where they say he drank two bottles of the wine.

Police say when Phifer left the restroom, he picked up a package of sushi, put it down his pants and left the store without paying.

Loss prevention employees held Phifer until police arrived.
