FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The Fayetteville Police Department says a man advertising baked goods and tea was really cooking up something illegal.

His luck ran out when a police officer walked into the Tea Bubble and Bakery Cafe at 5439 Yadkin Road and discovered it was a front for alleged illegal gambling.

"When we arrested the owner, he indicated to us that he had been in operation for about a year, whether it's true or not, he told us he originally started out as a bakery, but the business was not very successful, so he had to engage in gambling," explained Lt. Brett Chandler.

Officers raided the business October 1 and removed 10 illegal gambling machines.

Owner Wing Nie, 66, faces felony gambling charges. Bond was set at $10,000.

More than $3,000 in cash was also seized from the business.
