Police named a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a man in his driveway last year

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There was an emotional plea for help from a Houston family this morning, 10 months after their loved one was murdered feet from his doorstep. His killer is still on the run.

Michael Boyd, 20, died on June 24, 2014. Police say the young man had just gotten off his shift at work and was returning to his home in the 8000 block of Carver street.

When he pulled into the driveway, someone fired

Thirty shots with a .223 caliber assault rifle into his vehicle. Shots penetrated the back of Boyd's vehicle, striking him. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital, where he later died.

Police say they are looking for Daniel Cruz, 26, as a person of interest. He had been deported back to Honduras four years earlier, but was back in the U.S.

Police say a week before Boyd's murder, Cruz, was involved in an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, trying to run over the mother of Cruz's child. That woman was also dating Michael, who had been raising her child.
