HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Harris County couple is facing felony charges after they allegedly beat their three-year-old son over a potty accident.

The preschooler was taken to Texas Children's Pediatric Clinic in August for a regular check up and the doctor noticed some bruising and injuries that indicated possible abuse, according to court documents.

The boy's mother, Rekendra Vincent, told police that she had "whooped" the boy multiple times with a belt because he had pooped in his pants, even though he was already potty trained. Victor Williams, the child's father, told police that he also struck the boy with a belt that day, causing bruising on his back. Williams admitted to police that he got carried away that day while spanking the boy.

Vincent, 23, and Wiliams, 27, are charged with injury to a child.
