Houston police officer injured while chasing suspected burglar

An officer trying to stop a car burglar was hit by a vehicle and dragged.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston police officer is recovering this morning, after being injured while chasing a suspect in east Houston.

It started around 2:30am. A man was seen breaking into a car at Pineview and Capital Street.

The officer tried to catch him, but the suspect jumped into a Dodge Magnum, hit the officer and dragged him down the street.

Other officers saw what was happening and chased the suspect. He later crashed into a pole at East Navigation and 77th Street and jumped out of his vehicle.

The suspect was found hiding under a storage building behind a house and was transported to the hospital.

The officer was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition with leg fractures and an arm injury.

The suspect will be charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault of a police officer and felony evading.
