TEXAS CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Two men have been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery at a Texas City home early Saturday morning.

It happened around 6am when an off-duty Texas City Police officer was woken up by his neighbor, who told the officer two men -- one of whom was armed with a handgun -- had entered his home and demanded money and property.

The off-duty officer called for help with his police radio. Once officers arrived, the off-duty officer and the first responding officer confronted the suspects who were still outside of the victim's home. When the off-duty officer confronted one of the suspects, a struggle ensued and the off-duty officer's weapon discharged into the ground. No one was injured during the struggle.

Vincent Louis Herrera, 33, a Galveston resident and Aaron Richard, 21, a Texas City resident both face aggravated robbery and several other charges.

Both suspects were taken into custody.
