LIBERTY COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- Liberty County Sheriff deputies seized several horses and other animals after hearing they were being neglected.

All 14 animals have now been turned over to the Houston SPCA.

In all, deputies rescued six horses, one donkey, two dogs, one cat and four pigs. Investigators describe the animals as having lived in "very poor conditions," saying it looks like they were "totally abandoned."

Investigators say one horse was kept in a trailer with no food and rancid water. Other horses were standing in 9 inches of feces and using *that for food because they were so hungry.

When our cameras showed up at the address where the animals were seized, we weren't well received. The people there refused to talk to us.

The Liberty County Sheriffs Office says the owners could face charges.

There's a hearing next Tuesday. We hope to learn more about what will happen next in open court.
