HARRIS COUNTY (KTRK) -- The cruel and racist graffiti Destiney Dilworth saw when she walked out of her apartment door made her physically sick.

"I went to throw up and my husband was like, 'are you okay?'"

A racial slur and a seemingly spray-painted message at two doors to 'get out' were found just outside the apartments of African-American residents that live there.

"Why? Anywhere my husband and I have stayed, we don't bother anybody, we go to work, come home?" said Dilworth.

She's only lived at The Landmark at Grand Champion a few months, but now, despite watching a maintenance crew paint over the hateful words, she is afraid. Another resident who wasn't targeted was too nervous to reveal his identity when he talked to abc13.

"A lot of children around here, a lot of kids, with a threat like that, you don't want somebody like that to come to your front door step, if they take it the next step," he said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is forwarding the report to a detective, but in the meantime, Dilworth says she doesn't know who would come all the way to the back of their complex to do this in the middle of the night and wonders what might happen next.

"I'm hurt. I'm disgusted," she added.
