HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A mother who lost her daughter in a school bus crash is now suing HISD and the bus manufacturer.

Mariya Johnson, 17, died in September when the school bus she was in flew off an overpass on the South Loop and Telephone, then crashed onto the ground below. The lawsuit claims the bus was poorly designed and claims HISD was negligent.

The lawsuit seeks more than $1 million in damages.

Janecia Chatman, 14, also died in the crash. Two other students and the driver were hurt.
