Mother takes plea deal
The mother of a man convicted in the death of his son's prom date was sentenced today in the case

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Melissa Martinez said nothing to the family of the 17-year-old girl who died after pleading guilty to two counts of providing hydrocodone to her son, Eddie Herrera, and Jackie Gomez. But the Gomez's family did have something to say.

Jackie's mother, Annie Barron, said, "She deserves every single day and she is going to get everyday."

Barron says the woman who provided drugs and alcohol to her daughter has shown no remorse since the night Gomez died.

Martinez was sentenced today to 21 months in jail for providing hydrocodone to her son and Gomez on the night of her prom. The 17-year-old died that night.

Herrera, Martinez's son, was found guilty of aggravated assault earlier and is serving 25 years in prison.

Martinez pleaded guilty for her role, but said nothing to the family before being sentenced.

Barron said, "She didn't show no remorse, so I was just like, from a mother to a mother, that is not acceptable."

Barron says she hopes Martinez and her son see Jackie Gomez's face everyday they serve behind bars.
