Man, woman charged after baby found dead in Alvin

ALVIN, TX (KTRK) -- A Brazoria County father and mother now sit in jail. Investigators accuse the dad of beating his 3-month-old son to death and leaving him in a swing. A criminal complaint revealed the mom arrived home to find the infant lifeless. She called 911.

The tragic situation happened on June 2. Brian Hampson, 37, has been charged with injury to a child in connection to Josef Hampson's passing. Gisela Hampson, 28, has been charged with endangering a child.

At their former home off Amoco Drive South, you can still see children's toys out front in the yard. A neighbor, who only wanted to be identified as Niki, tells abc13 she was there shortly after police.

"There really wasn't a whole lot that could be done. Unfortunately when we went into the house, the baby had been deceased for an undetermined amount of time. It's heartbreaking. You never want to see a child get hurt, especially not one so young. It was really heartbreaking. I still have nightmares about it," said Niki. "Somehow there was physical harm done to the baby. There was a lot of bruising and dry blood. It was really disturbing. It's rough seeing. Every time I look out my window, it's an image that will forever be burned into my memory unfortunately."

Investigator Jarrad Norris with the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office said they charged the mother because the father had a past history of violence with children. She also admitted to using methamphetamines before and after Josef's birth. When investigators executed a search warrant, court documents said they home had "a strong odor of dog urine and feces." They also found "marijuana cigarette butts to be in multiple locations in the home and some to be in reach of a child."

"You never get use to any case like this. It makes you angry. You just have to remember to stick to what the law says we have to do. Again, protect the other children and try to get some justice for the deceased one," Norris said. "If you know there is something going on in the house toward where your child is in danger no matter from what, it's your job to get that child out of the danger. If you remain complacent and you leave the child in danger then we're going to do whatever we can to hold you accountable and to protect the children."

The Hampsons have two other children, a 4-year-old daughter and 1-year-old boy. They are now in state foster care.

Brian Hampson remains in jail on a $750,000 bond. Gisela Hampson remains in jail on a $350,000 bond.
