Cops looking for man in connection with pot grow field

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities are looking for a man in connection with a huge marijuana grow field, and they're willing to pay $5,000 if you can help them out.

The person of interest is Benigno Ramirez, a Hispanic male. Ramirez is a Mexican national from Michoacan, Mexico. He is 5-feet, 6-inches to 5-feet, 8-inches in height and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Agents with the Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force, a Houston HDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) initiative composed of local and federal agencies, are searching for Ramirez and another suspect in connection with the grow field, which was raided Tuesday, Aug. 19. The field was located south of Old Richmond Road and west of Highway 6, just off of Oyster Creek.

Between 9,000 and 10,000 plants were cut and destroyed. If the plants had been harvested, the street value of the marijuana would have been between $9 million and $10 million.

The suspects were living in a makeshift campsite under a tarp and a canopy of vines and other plants.

Information which leads to the apprehension and filing of charges on the suspect involved could earn a reward of up to $5,000. All calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.
