HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible case of road rage after a driver was shot along Highway 249.

According to investigators, the male driver of a Chrysler 300 was driving from Acres Homes and an apparent confrontation broke out between another male driver.

Deputies said the male victim was grazed by a bullet in the head. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital.

"We have no other information than a dark-colored blue or black Mercedes SUV. We do not have a motive and are interviewing witnesses at this time," said Sgt. Shannon Bowdoin, with HCSO's Missing Persons and Assault Unit.

Three witnesses were interviewed, including a woman who said the SUV cut her off in traffic as she was turning on Highway 249. She heard a gunshot and saw a silver Chrysler sedan leave the roadway and coast on to a grass easement. She said the tires continued to spin and the SUV never stopped.

The sedan showed a single bullet hole next to the driver's window.

No arrests have been made.

Detectives are checking with nearby businesses to see if there is surveillance video that may help identify the SUV.
