Man questioned about the murder of Asst. Chief Deputy Greenwood

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- As police continue to search for a suspect in the brutal murder of a well-respected law enforcement officer, Eyewitness News tracked down a man the police questioned for more than half a day.

William Marks said he was interviewed and put through a polygraph examination for 12 of the last 24 hours.

"I was questioned about Mr. Greenwood, but I don't know anything that happened to him or his death," said Marks.

Marks told Eyewitness News that he understands why police are questioning him. He is a former police officer who has a five-year-old lawsuit against Greenwood in federal court alleging a violation of his civil rights.

The case is currently on hold while other criminal cases against Marks are appealed.

Greenwood wrote in documents that he felt threatened by one of Marks' associates.

Marks insisted that it was not a threat and that he was not involved in Greenwood's murder.

Marks told Eyewitness News that the list of former law enforcement officers with grudges against Greenwood could be lengthy.

"I think they are going to find hundreds," said Marks.

Marks' allegations fly in the face of Greenwood's reputation and what public officials have repeatedly said.
