Man leads HPD on high-speed chase
The owner of the stolen truck hopped into the bed of the truck and held on for the duration of the chase.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Miraculously, a man was not seriously hurt after riding in a truck bed during a high-speed chase.

Troopers said the chase lasted for 100 miles. Investigators said it started in Beaumont and ended in southwest Houston.

Officers said the owner of the truck was working at Logan's Roadhouse in Beaumont early Sunday morning, when someone told him that a man was stealing his truck.

Officers said the victim jumped into the bed of his truck and the suspect took off. Troopers said he drove at speeds up to 115 miles an hour. Investigators say the victim managed to hang on in the back of the truck.

The suspect finally stopped on the Southwest Freeway near Bissonnet.

He was taken into custody. Troopers transported him back to Beaumont where he will face charges.

The victim had a busted lip but otherwise was not hurt. As expected, he was really shaken up.
