CORPUS CHRISTI, TX -- A man in South Texas has died after the boat he was on sank in a bay near the Gulf of Mexico.

A Coast Guard spokesman says a distress call was sent Sunday morning from a 24-foot boat. The vessel reported it was taking on water in Copano Bay near Rockport.

The spokesman says a rescue helicopter arrived shortly after the boat sank and found two people clinging to a platform and a man floating unresponsive.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Coast Guard has not released his name or cause of death.

A 14-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown. The third person rescued had no injuries.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is investigating.
